Complete Guide: The New Dschinni Flavors Arrive in Spain

Classic and Traditional Flavors by Dschinni

In mid-March of this year, the BOE published the new flavors by Dschinni that would enter the Spanish market, and within a few weeks, they were available in all the tobacco shops across the country. Dschinni is a name that might sound familiar to us, as, like Mr. Shisha in Spain, it has shined for its hookahs and accessories before for its flavors. Although in the case of Mr. Shisha, this is because the brand didn't enter the tobacco industry until a few years after creating its hookah brand, the case of Dschinni is different, as in Germany, where the brand originates, its flavors have been available for many years, and the only way to get them was by ordering with the corresponding customs risk and consequent price increases.

Now they enter our market, and the first thing that catches our attention is that, besides the few references, all of them are simple flavors, mostly fruity and without blends. This is one of the brand's details, among others, that we will break down in this article, so if you like the brand or are thinking of trying it, stay with us, and we'll tell you everything!

Dschinni Flavors… Is Simplicity the Key?

To talk more in detail about Dschinni, below are the flavors currently available in our tobacco shops so you can get an idea or refresh your memory if you've already tried them:

  • Blacky: Black grape
  • Blue: Blueberry
  • Blue Sky: Ice
  • Da bomb: Lemon pie
  • Green Red: Watermelon
  • Persian: Pistachio
  • Yellow: Iced lemon

These are the seven flavors that have been introduced so far, although the brand has a few more available in Germany. As you can see, they are very simple flavors, as we presented earlier, and they do not go beyond the great hookah classics like traditional grape, lemon, and blueberry flavors, except for its pistachio flavor, something more “peculiar” and which, by the way, is very famous in Germany.

This might catch the attention of many hookah enthusiasts who, used to brands with more complex flavors, with one or two additional aromas to the main one or more extravagant flavor blends, may be surprised by this type of entry into the Spanish market, but it has its meaning. Let's find out why!

In the End, Simplicity Wins

To give some context, we need to understand that Dschinni is a brand with quite a track record in the German market. The brand tells us they have been in the sector since 2010 and have always been characterized by simple and easy-to-mix flavors. In fact, what we are receiving now are not their original flavors, as at the end of 2023, they reformulated their references, a 2.0 as many brands like to call it, and from there, after years of success, during which Spaniards even ordered Dschinni from abroad, the brand decided to introduce them into our national market.

You might wonder why a brand with such simple flavors that have worked for so long in its market would decide to reformulate after so many years, and the answer is much simpler than we might expect.

In Germany, as in other countries, certain components and flavorings are legal for a certain time but then get banned. These can cause the tobacco to change in minimal ways, such as in the case of colorants, or more serious problems for the brands, such as the ban on menthol flavorings. We can see these restrictions in other brands too, like Grape 2.0 from Holster. These situations can affect brands more or less depending on the severity, but they can also use these situations to carry out a good rebranding, reformulating their flavors and even improving them.

As we are informed by Dschinni, it was precisely this problem that they took advantage of to expand their presence in other markets, taking advantage of the situation to sell a considerable improvement in their flavors without these being particularly complex. Now, is Dschinni worth it?

Characteristics of Dschinni: The German Genie Brand

Did you know that "Dschinni" means genie in German? Well, now you also know why their logo. A brand like this, with such a long history despite not innovating much in the complexity of its flavors, is a testament to its value. Dschinni is characterized by very well-known flavors in the hookah world, which generally appeal to many.

We could say that it mimics on a small scale the model of Adalya, which, although in recent years has ventured into launching some more elaborate new references, in essence, their tobacco has always stood out for having one flavor or its variants with ice or mint. Dschinni is a very affordable brand for beginners, with a medium-cut tending to fine and with a considerable amount of molasses, reminding us of other brands like Holster, which we mentioned at the beginning.

For these reasons, at 1001 Cachimbas, we recommend using phunnel bowls like "Petra" or "Pusi" to get a good smoking session. It is true that in Germany, using the brohood heat management device is very standardized, and generally, these brands tend to work well in this way, but you won't find significant changes, and it is not the most common in our country; with a semi-dense or normal load in a phunnel bowl, it will work perfectly. As for its heat resistance, we could say that Dschinni is somewhat intermediate in this sense, as it withstands temperature well but is not specifically designed for heavy use.

Do we recommend Dschinni? The answer is a resounding yes. Although it is true that it is a particularly attractive brand for beginners and those who are not used to very peculiar flavors, more seasoned hookah enthusiasts may find in this brand an excellent mixer for their hookah sessions or an option when we simply want to smoke a classic flavor like grape mint or a refreshing lemon. In fact, something that stands out about their flavors is that they are very natural, partly thanks to their simplicity, so regardless of the power you can get out of it, they are very pleasant to the palate. Additionally, with only seven references entering the market, you can quickly try them all and find your favorite flavor, making it a perfect alternative if what we want is a traditional fruity flavor.

After all, the reason it is present in so many tobacco shops, even in those that do not usually specialize in hookahs, is because they are flavors that generally appeal to the public and are not as niche as Kak de la Trshkv from Revoshi, a black tea with bergamot that, although many of us love, is not the typical thing people order in a VIP lounge in a club.

In fact, speaking of lounges, Dschinni has entered in both 50 and 200-gram formats at a price of €3.95 and €14.80, respectively. We highlight this because it may be another reason why it is attractive for lounges and caterings that look for simple flavors, suitable for both solo consumption and mixing. We would not be too bold to say that Dschinni could be a good competitor for older and outdated brands of simple flavors, which, although they have worked for many years, could now be overshadowed after the arrival of this brand.

In the end, you are the one who decides. Maybe you are a little disappointed when you make yourself a bowl of Yellow, the iced lemon of the brand, and see that the genie from the logo does not appear, but there will certainly be plenty of smoke and a magnificent flavor that could be enjoyed by both you and that friend who always wants “something simple.”
